Fifteen Grants Available at $2,000, $5,000, and $10,000 Tiers, in Collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Regional Regranting Program

March 1, 2022 – For its third installment, Northwest Film Forum’s Collective Power Fund returns with fifteen grants for individual artists and artist-run collectives who live in unincorporated or incorporated King County. Individual artists will be able to apply for the lower two tiers; the $2,000 grants will be for Research & Development, to compensate artists for intellectual labor and idea development, while the $5,000 grants will be for New Work & Project Grants, to support the creation and presentation of visionary, artist-driven new work and projects. The $10,000 tier will be exclusive to artist teams or artist-run collectives.

“The Collective Power Fund offers an opportunity to support artists in an accessible and equitable way,” says Mikayla Nicholson, Northwest Film Forum’s Grants Manager. “After consulting with artists who have helped us identify the obstacles that exist in traditional grant structures, we are striving to create a grant process to support the underserved, diverse group of creatives in our community.”

Collective Power Fund is presented as a part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Regional Regranting Program. Collective Power Fund focuses primarily on supporting work that incites public dialogue, pushes boundaries, explores genre fluidity, speaks its truth through an authentic perspective, and is often non-traditional, anti-institutional, socially responsible, or disruptive of existing structures and conventions. It encourages a community-forward environment of resource-sharing, mutual support, and fellowship in the Pacific Northwest arts ecosystem.

As Yewon Kwon, a recipient of the 2021 Artist Development Grant, noted, “As a new artist who just recently moved to Seattle, receiving this grant has been such a huge boost to my confidence, and helped me connect so many new wonderful artists and acquaintances!”

OVERVIEW & GUIDELINES

The 2022 Collective Power Fund grants will be project-based and will distribute $68,000 in funding as follows:

(1) $10,000 – Artist Team or Arts Collective
(10) $5,000 – New Work/Projects
(4) $2,000 – Research + Development

Individual artists, who live in King County, will be able to apply for the $2,000 or $5,000 tiers. The $10,000 tier will be exclusive to artist teams or artist-run collectives within unincorporated and incorporated King County.

New Work/Project Grants ($5,000)
​​Support the creation and presentation of visionary, artist-driven new work/projects.

Research & Development Grants ($2,000)
Research Grants funds can be used to compensate for intellectual labor and idea development, to pay other artists and thinkers for their time and contributions, and/or for costs associated with gaining access to specific resources.

Project Criteria for this grant round include:

• Projects must function around a visual arts context
• Applicant must be the primary creator of the project and related work
• Projects must have a publicly accessible component
• Proposals must be for the development, completion, and/or presentation of a project
• Applicant must have creative control and rights of the proposed project
• Individual artists may apply to complete a body of work as long as part of their project expands beyond their own solo practice
• Funded projects must be completed by July 30, 2023
