The Seattle Asian American Film Festival (SAAFF) showcases feature-length and short format films by and about Asian Americans across North America, with an emphasis on filmmakers from the Pacific Northwest.

SAAFF is the only film festival in Seattle to provide a space for Asian American voices, perspectives and histories by screening independent films that reflect the diversity and richness of the city’s Asian American community.

SAAFF 2019 will present screenings at Broadway Performance Hall and Northwest Film Forum, in addition to a special opening night event at Washington Hall on Feb. 22 at 9pm. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22

  Humanity + technology. What could go wrong?
• 8:30pm – Spotlight (shorts program)
  Northwest Film Forum is proud to co-present Seattle Asian American Film Festival’s Spotlight program, a collection of six short films centered around mystery, surreal moments, unexpected circumstances, heartbreak, and trauma’s role in transforming daily reality.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23

• 11am – Family Portraits (free shorts program)
  The joys and heartaches of being part of a family.
• 1:30pm – Finding the Virgo
  Vietnamese boat refugees were rescued at sea, close to death, by the U.S. based cargo ship LNG Virgo in 1980. Once settled in the United States, one family of survivors embarks on a decades long search for the captain and crew of the ship that gave them new life.
• 4pm – For Izzy
  Dede, a photojournalist and recovering addict, moves in next door to Laura, a young woman with autism. As the pair form an unlikely friendship, Dede assembles a documentary, using animation and found footage to tell a story of getting sober, of family and friendship, and of love and forgiveness.
• 6:30pm – In the Land of Lost Angels (free)
  With time running out and desperate for cash, two Mongolian immigrants turn to crime as their only solution. When things spin out of control, how far are they willing to go?

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24

• 11am – Limitless (shorts program)
  People pushing their bodies, and themselves, to the limit.
• 1:30pm – On Happiness Road
  When Chi was a little girl in Taiwan, her mother made her memorize their new address on Happiness Road. From that childhood moment, to moving to the U.S. as an adult, and then having to return home after her grandmother’s passing, Chi continues to ask, “What is happiness?”
• 4pm – Drawn Together: Comics, Diversity and Stereotypes
  With a lively backdrop of superheroes, comic books, and animated comics, meet three talented artists—a Sikh, a woman, and an African American—who are challenging the racist stereotyping currently endemic in America through their work in comics.
• 6:30pm – Mindfork (free shorts program)
  My mind is playing tricks on me…
