Local Sightings 2021 – Reflecting on Anti-Bias Education in Action: The Early Years + Schooling During the Pandemic

⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE:
NWFF patrons will be required to wear face coverings while in the building. To be admitted, patrons ages 12+ will also be required to present EITHER proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR a negative result from a COVID-19 test administered within the last 48 hours by an official testing facility.

Discussion
Join a panel discussion with featured teachers, program leaders and the filmmakers from Reflecting on Anti-bias Education in Action: The Early Years, focusing on strategies and challenges for talking about identity, diversity, fairness and action with young children and adults. This will be followed by a Q&A session.
About
In Reflecting on Anti-Bias Education, eight West Coast pre-school teachers invite us into their classrooms to demonstrate how inclusive educational models encourage a strong sense of self and sociocultural identity in children. Interwoven throughout the documentary are classroom scenes and candid interviews with teachers that outline how the methodology has impacted their own identities, while inviting the audience to think about how they can integrate anti-bias education into their daily lives.

Presented by Seattle’s Northwest Film Forum, the 24th Annual Local Sightings Film Festival is a virtual-and-in-person showcase of creative communities from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The 2021 program, which runs from September 16–26, features a competitive selection of curated short film programs and feature films, inviting regional artists to experiment, break, and remake popular conceptions around filmmaking and film exhibition.
Local Sightings champions emerging and established talent, supports the regional film industry, and promotes diverse media as a critical tool for public engagement.
